Pediatric Patients

A Comfortable Eye Care Experience for Children

Kumar Eye Institute can provide your child with the best in pediatric ophthalmology exams and treatments. Our doctors and staff have had additional training and practice in examining and caring for children’s eyes so that they can have the best vision possible in a comfortable, caring atmosphere.

To best meet your child’s needs, we require that you or a legal guardian accompany the child to their initial visit with us. We also allow other caregivers to bring your child as long as they have a notarized letter from a legal guardian granting permission. It is best if someone with a strong understanding of your child’s medical history is present.

Your Child's First Visit

We recommend allowing 2 hours for your child’s initial exam with us. This includes waiting for the eye dilation drops to work (30 to 45 minutes). The effects of the drops wear off in a few hours, though their pupils may remain large or unequal in size for a few days afterward.

Your child’s vision will be thoroughly checked during our complete exam. We test eye muscle balance, depth perception, color vision testing, and inner and outer eye structures.

We ask that you bring in all proper referrals, insurance cards, and co-pays for your visit. This is the patient’s responsibility as our office is usually unable to facilitate this for you on the day of your child’s exam. All new patient forms are completed electronically. Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to complete our electronic forms.
